What Happened
With King Eric Carver crowned, it was time to celebrate. Part of the celebration included the Running of the News, a special race through Canton City to deliver the news of the new king. Oona, Saxon, and Adran (Didyouhearirecentlydied) decided to join the race. Norvaan had to attend to duties within the castle and Darry was busy discussing the finer points of religion and magic with Celestriana.
The night before the race, Adran, Oona, and Saxon wanted to get some information about the race and the other runners. Adran and Oona were able to glean valuable information (except for Saxon who learned to stop asking the same person about the same people).
The rules of the race were very simple. When the portcullis fell, the race started. The participants had to deliver a note to an elder stationed at the top of a tower. There was the main road you could take, along with the poor district, and the rich district. On top of that, the participants could try to run along the roof. Adran and Oona chose the poor street, while Saxon took to the rich streets.
Saxon bravely ran along the streets and encountered a problem with magic stores in the district. Holding his breath and plowing through, he bravely made it through the area and reached the river, where no bridge would help him cross.
Meanwhile, Adran and Oona encountered thieves trying to steal their valuables. They ran past the thieves, and paid them no mind, dodging or shrugging off their blows. As they reached the river, a foul stench welcomed them, however with no way to cross in front of them, they decided to jump in and swim for the other side.
While Oona was having a bit of difficulty swimming against the current, Adran decided to move over to the bridge to continue the race. Saxon leaped from barge to barge crossing the water with little effort. Safely upon the far bank, though a little winded, but still feeling good, Saxon decided to hop a fence and cross over through someones backyard. March of the Swivelheads started playing in the background. With luck, Saxon would make it to the tower and easily climb up, but his luck ran out soon after he jumped the fence. He was surrounded by several guard dogs, who viciously attacked him, taking him out of the race.
Adran was struggling to get to the bridge, while Oona persevered and made it up the far bank. Oona moved his legs as fast as they could carry him, and made it to the tower first! After deftly climbing up, he handed the note to the elder and won the prize, a hefty sum of 400 gold pieces and Surefoot boots.
That night was a celebration for King Eric Carver and to celebrate Oona's win. The party was not only an inaugural celebration, but as well a social gathering, as Lady Krysta tried to get a down Saxon and a reborn Adran involved in the party (Did you hear Adran died recently???). Saxon just didn't even seem himself, maybe it was the loss, maybe it was the fact he had been bested by guard dogs.
Adran felt out of place, due to being a Insel Elf, and was keeping to himself. Norvaan, attempted to socialize with some of the crowd, including Marshal Broussard. However the Marshal was of privileged birth, and somewhat annoyed by the young man's presence. Oona celebrated in style, the only way he knows how, a smile on his face and one ale in each hand. He even met a fellow dwarf here in town to have an audience with the King. He had no sooner arrived than the late king passed, and had been waiting quite some time.
Near the end of the party, Lady Krysta even tried to introduce a friend to Saxon. Saxon feeling quite melancholy at the time, just stumbled over his words and the lady left disgusted. We also learned that Lady Krysta was informed she would return to Danberg, and the heroes would accompany her back. At which point, their services would be considered done...
