Session Story
The party had arrived outside of Malaga with King Eric's forces, having just rid themselves of the pirates. The army stationed there was readying to retake the city. As the party moved through, several noticed Norvaan, and he offered them some of his winter clothes to keep them warm. The party was given a badge of the House of Carver to identify them as allies and allow safe passage.
While passing through, the party met with Bendroden Lightbringer, who thanked Norvaan for the message he delivered. After introducing Laphane and explaining why they had arrived, Bendroden escorted the group to a tent to meet with King Eric. King Eric welcomed the group back and even remembered speaking with Laphane at the Battle of Windfall Valley. He told the group that a message had been sent out to De Agueda, which requested the unconditional surrender of his armies, the return of the prisoner Thomas De Agueda and the release and return of a poltical prisoner Doña Letizia Gomes Castillo. He had not heard back from them, and revealed that Thomas was last known to be travelling east through the mountains. The group mentioned that Saxon's sister may have possibly aided in Thomas' escape and as far as they knew, was acting as bodyguard. After some discussion, Bendroden leads the gropu up to a tower to show the overlay of the land. Using this vantage point, the group formulates a plan to catch up with the treacherous Agueda. Bendroden wished the group luck, his eyes slightly jealous of the young adventurers, then returned to the camp.
With Adran's careful scouting Laphane's following animal trails, the group managed to stay mostly hidden. They soon discover that they were in the heart of De Agueda's forces. In an effort to break through, Norvaan launched a fire arrow into the forest. As soon as it hit, the party broke out at full speed, a daring race to the mountain pass. After this point, Adran began covering the party's tracks, with the intent of throwing off any pursuit. As they reached the mountain pass, Laphane scouted ahead and spotted two watchtowers, each manned by one person, guarding a large keep. The keep itself is lightly guarded. While Norvaan considered the troop strength of the enemy, Laphane and Adran heard two people approaching from behind.
With a quick discussion about the next action, the party remained quiet and patient until the patrol moved out of sight. With the darkness as a cover, the group launched itself into the pass. Laphane fired two arrows at the guard, but not before a light signal went out to the other tower and the keep. Laphane's arrows managed to take down the first guard. At this point, Norvaan began firing along with Laphane, attempting to remove the two guards at the bottom of the watchtower. After stopping briefly at the first, they raced on to the second tower, with a brief pause to secure the horses. At the second tower, Norvaan's shot dropped the guard in the tower. As we approach the keep, Adran witnessed the guards stand ready.
The party charges, and attacks the two guards, the guards were not the only ones, as an Orc and Minotaur joined the attack, along with a woman staying in the back, who threw daggers at the group. Adran pulled one of the guards out, Oona locked down the Minotaur, Orc and other guard. Norvaan keep encouraging us to fight harder. Laphane fired arrows at targets as they were available. When Adran noticed the woman in the back, he shouted, "Sara!" The woman stopped, leading the group to believe they may have found Saxon's sister.
As the battle ended, Adran dropped the Orcish mercenary. "Zurn!!!", Sara shouted and launched an assault, blinded by fury. Seeing this Laphane carefully fired his arrow at the Minotaur to disable him. The group surrounded Sara and told her to drop her weapons. Given the option of surrender or death, she laid down her knives and sword.
The group explain to Sara what happened to her parents and Saxon. She was also distressed about the loss of Zurn. She agreed to let them release Doña Letizia Gomes Castillo. Letizia told the group that Thomas had been down in the keep for days, and that this was a place meant to hold an untold evil, she was charged with protecting it. Norvaan immediately ordered the group into the depths, very much displeased with the idea of Agueda gaining "untold" levels of power. She opened the trapdoor for the gathered warriors, and the group plunged into the darkness. The group finally saw light, and entered a crypt, with two stone coffins and a tar pit down the middle. Across the tar pit, Thomas De Agueda stood inside a glowing circle, and begins attacking the group. He began by summoning a tar demon to attack. Laphane targeted Thomas, and then hit the tar demon. After the demon fell to the party's assault, Oona and Adran charged into attack De Agueda. The magical circle pushes them back and Agueda lashed out with lighting at the party. After recovering from the devastating attack, almost in unison, the avenger and dwarf charged at him again, and the circle pushed them back one more time. Thomas teleported away from the circle and attacked Oona, Norvaan, and Adran, and left Laphane a chance to attack him. The rest of the party witnessed Adran make a great leap across the tar..
Agueda's Defeat
Guided by Keedrah, Adran Arun Ealoeth races across the room, and leaps, unhindered by the foul demonic tar, bringing his spear to bear against Agueda. His aim is true, and finds it’s mark at Agueda’s chest. At the last moment, Agueda seems to recognize what’s happening, and lets out a scream, “MY LORD HELP ME!” The spear tip sinks in, and he stands shocked for a moment, unable to move.
Suddenly a light bursts from Agueda's eyes, and the magical circle he was standing upon turns into a spinning vortex of magical energy. A deep moaning can be heard and a pair of bright glowing eyes can be seen through the vortex. Fear of this beast strikes you to the core of your very being, as the energies form into a hand, enveloping Agueda within. It pushes him upwards to the ceiling and bursts through the rock, carrying him away. All around you the structure begins to creak and moan, as the raw magical energy surges outward in all directions. The roof buckles and collapses, and everything goes dark.
