May 18, 2012 – Attack on the King

• 4 Decitis 1444 - Preparing to leave Canton City.

The Story

In the castle courtyard the party watches as the Roc Knights finish the preparation to carry them over the mountains into enemy controlled territory. Suddenly the castle is under attack by dwarven forces flying griffon mounts. The Roc Knights take to the air to defend the city. As the aerial battle begins dwarven adversaries, along with gargoyle allies, land on the walls and courtyard. A dark armored figure riding a flying reptile seems to be the general of these attackers, never enter battle himself always flying high above and directing. The party defend their section of wall skillfully, but as the battle continues abnormal behavior befalls Adran and Oona.

As the initial enemies are dealt with Adran becomes increasingly pale, unsteady on his feet. While in this state he starts heading for the castle proper while telling us about a vision he has relating to the tarot reading he received in the Shadowfell. The trance only ceasing once Adran enters the castle.

Laphane and Norvaan came to Adran's side as soon as they realized the significance of Adran's actions.

Meanwhile Oona becomes more and more enraged, going far beyond what the rest of the party has ever seen him before. His monomaniacal killing spree escalating to the point of ignoring his allies in his attempt to continue the battle. His rage breaking only as Adran came under attack by the Dark Ones in the castle. He too runs to Adran's side.

Once the entryway is cleared the King and the Donia are found alive but badly wounded, Sara Harold and Rauth the minotaur were not as lucky. Entering the kitchen finds two guards, one dead the other holding a sniveling kitchen worker prisoner. He leaves the prisoner in our care to go retrieve Bendroden, who arrives moments later. Suspicions are raised and soon confirmed as this Bendroden orders Oona to kill the prisoner but doesn't know any of the groups names referring to them only as soldiers.

The impostor soon reveals himself to be an odious changeling in the ensuing fight with him and his Dark One allies. Soon the real Bendroden arrives and assists the party to clear out the last of these attackers.

A search turns up signs that the attackers inside the castle were attempting to break into the private quarters through the secret entrance. It is also discovered that the head chef is missing, probably as the changelings cover until the attack this day.
