March 16, 2012 – In the Shadowfell - Gloomwrought

The Story

As Norvaan's hand pierced the ground, reaching up into the open air, he saw dim light filtering through the hole. He proceeded up, and out, and began helping the others. What surrounded him was a little unsettling. It was dark, and he was in a graveyard. The sky was dim, gray, and different. The party realized they had crossed planes, and were now in theShadowfell. Adran's keen, pointy elf-ears heard someone singing. Sneaking over, he spotted a man digging a grave. The party walked over and talked to the man, named Smolken(sp). He noticed the party was not from the Shadowfell, their bright, pink flesh giving them away. He called them "Primers" - those not of the Shadowfell, but the Prime Material Plane. Norvaan assisted Smolken while he talked, helping him place a casket in the ground. The casket wiggled slightly, almost imperceptibly, but Norvaan did not seem concerned, and Adran followed his lead. Smolken informed the party that they needed to head to Gloomwrought to find a way back to the Prime. Smolken suggested following the river south. The party thanked the gravedigger, and headed towards the river to begin their travels.

The party set up a makeshift camp on the bank of the river. As they slept, Adran kept getting a strange feeling of deja-vu. In the morning the party continued south towards Gloomwrought. After two days of travel, the party reached the gates of the city, and were eyed warily by the guardsmen. They immediately named the party as Primers.

After getting directions to different spots in Gloomwrought, Oona naturally headed to the local watering hole. The rest of the party, weary from the journey, followed. After a bit of conversation between Ivon and the barkeep, the party set out again. Norvaan, Adran, Oona, and Laphane decided to go the the local temple.

Ivon attempted to get an audience with the Prince of Gloomwrought. He approached the castle, but was continually dismissed and rebuffed by the guards, who did not seem to care one whit for a Primer.

At the Temple of Necrosaro, the wizardless-party talked with an acolyte. The Acolyte realized that they indeed had been touched by Necrosaro, and that this was unusual, rare, and important. He also revealed that in order to find a way home, the party would have to find a group of plane-travelling gypsies known as the Vistani. The Vistani had been spotted in the docks around the markets there. Norvaan handed the acolyte a small donation, in thanks for Necrosaro's providence and the information they received.

At the docks, Laphane and Adran heard someone shout at them to turn over everything they have, when they turned around, they spotted someone who looked like Ivon. The voice wasn't his, and quickly Ivon was ambushed by Shadar-Kai, and the rest of party got involved in a street-wide brawl. They were surrounded other shadar-kai, on the rooftops and coming out of alleyways. The battle was hard-fought, and the ambush tactics of the Shadar-Kai almost gave them the upper hand. Dismantling the attackers, it appeared they were just common ruffians and thugs. After a brief rest, the party departed Gloomwrought, hoping to catch up with the mysterious Vistani and return to the Prime.
