Continental Elves

Known as Continental Elves by most other races, they prefer the term Eladrin, so as to distinguish themselves from Insel Elves. The Eladrin lands, known to them as Elad're, lie on the eastern edge of the Windman continent. Eladrin are tall and elegant, with pale skin and mono-colored eyes that range from emerald green to, very rarely, deep black.

History

Second only by the dwarves, the formative days of the race can be traced back before the time of the dragons. They were formed by Keedrah herself shortly after she imbued the dragons with their power. She gifted them with a pair of large gemstones, the Elf Ruby, an embodiment of their martial prowess, and the Elat Emerald, the embodiment of their connection to the feywild. As such, eladrin hold a deep abiding respect for Keedrah, and she is seen as their patron. At the time, they were known simply as elves.

Creation Wars

The elves of the time fought on the front lines of the creation war along side the dragons, as the most basic shock troop employed against the Modron. It was during this time that two distinct races of elves began to diverge. The Elat were magic users who bent the powers of the feywild to their will and wielded Keedrah's powers almost directly, while the Elven Guard served as front-line fighters.

Time of the Dragons

With the eons long war against the Modrons complete, and the influence of keedrah spreading across the world, the elves found themselves pushed increasingly back into their forest havens and the feywild by the dragons, who's power was increasing. The Elat and Elven Guard factions disagreed on how to handle the problem of the dragons. The elven guard openly fought with the dragons, taking down several of them despite the Archon's orders otherwise.

The Exile

After the Fall of the Dragons, however, things failed to improve between the two factions. The Archon, leader of the elves, was an Elat, and the magic users often looked down on their simpler kin with disdain. To further the split, the Elat began receding deeper into the feywild as a way to further commune with the goddess more directly. Things came to a head when, desiring the power of the Elat, the lead families of the Elven Guard attempted to overthrow the Archon, feeling it was time for an Elven Guard to rule the people. As a result, the Archon banished the entirety of the Elven Guard from the great forest, sending them away with the Elf Ruby, and renaming his people Eladrin.

Relations

Eladrin society as a whole keeps mostly to themselves, preferring the deeps of the feywild to the material plane of Keedrah. It is said The Great Forest is actual quite small compared to the areas of feywild they possess, and that the forest itself is the main conduit - an ever-present feywild worldfall - they use to pass in between the two realms. This would explain how ferociously they have guarded the forest against Gallantrian incursions on the past.

it is, however, increasingly difficult to stay out of the affairs of the material plane, and the eldarin have had increased contact with the other races of the windman continent, especially since the greater races war.

Humans

Humans have populated the windman continent since just after the fall of the dragons. During the height of their power, the vaunted Windman Empire, however, the humans of the continent knew only fools ventured into the forests to the west of the Gal. Those that did never returned, including an entire legion of the empire's soldiers.

These humans, of course, fell to the magics of the Eladrin, who have always pressed back hard against any attempt to push into their great forest. It's only recently however that the eladrin have had anything close to peaceful relations with the race.

Gallantria

The Gallantrians have the longest history with the Eladrin. The early humans of the Gal tribe had stories of the tall, pale-skinned feyfolk they would occasionally catch glimpses of wandering through the trackless forests to the west. With the rise of the Windman empire, several expeditions attempted to penetrate the forest, all disappearing without a trace, including an entire legion of over 5000 imperial soldiers who had been sent by Emperor Gaius Caracalla to break the mystery surrounding the forest for good. With this loss, the empire declared the forest permanently off limits, and it remained that way until the empire's fall.

After the fall of the empire, the new Gallantrian Kings set thier sights on the forest, and began settling along the edge. This drew the eladrin out of their self-imposed exile, and thus began a cycle of years of constant fighting beween the humans and eladrin over the border of Great Forest. This fighting finally subsided after the end of the greater races war, with the current Emperor, Gustav Shalt, having declared peace with the eladrin.

Loshmere

Eladrin contact with Loshmere has been sporatic, though recently they have made several attempts to begin trade with the continental elves.

Elves

Most eladrin tend to ignore Elves, though many show outright contempt for their far-removed cousins.

Insel

The Insel Elves still represent the way of life the Eladrin attempted to leave behind. There have been no formal relations between the two far flung people, however, through the intervening years, some insel elves have returned to the great forest, attempting to fulfill their family's oath to protect their eladrin counterparts.

Aegean

The aegean elves have no contact with the eladrin.

Gallantrian

Lysander Ulgar's Elven Guard has been joined in recent years by eladrin settlers who share Ulgar's belief that Windfall Valley needs to be watched over. These Eladrin are especially concerned with the total disappearance of the feywild in the area surrounding Windfall Valley and work daily to restore the connection there. This settlement is the only of it's kind, where the two split factions of the elves live together side by side once again.

Society

The eladrin are ruled by Archon Ellisatara, an autocrat who lives in The Spire, a large structure somewhere deep within the Great Forest. The Archon's only real power comes in the declaration and execution of wars and peace - in this capacity she is not disputed.

Families

Eladrin, along with Insel Elves hold strong ties to their families. In the early years, families were often paired, with one Elven Guard family sworn to protect one Elat family. The family names were often very close, and had the respective color of the caste the family belonged to in the name. For example, an Elven Guard family Ealoeth translates from elven as Red-Spear. They would have been sworn to protect the Elat family Roloeth, which translates roughly as "Green-Spear".
